Overview

Join Virginia Housing and help make a difference as a Staff Accountant.

This important role will be responsible for creating, reviewing, & maintaining vendor records, processing deposits, reviewing and reconciling the General Fund, and performing reconciliations for various general ledger accounts. The Staff Accountant will also prepare journal entries and complete the related accounting tasks that support accurate financial reporting and operational efficiency

To be successful in this role you must possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration; or equivalent experience in accounting, banking, or finance
  • Several years of professional experience in accounting, banking, or finance with demonstrated proficiency in accounts receivable, accounts payable, vendor management, general ledger review, bank account analysis and reconciliation, conflict resolution, and adherence to internal control practices
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal control frameworks
  • General understanding of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office and experience working within enterprise resource systems such as Microsoft Dynamics GP or equivalent platforms, as well as procuretopay systems such as Jaggaer One or comparable systems
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately analyze financial data, identify variances, and ensure data integrity
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fastpaced and deadlinedriven environment
  • Demonstrated analytical and problemsolving skills with a commitment to maintaining highquality work standards

 

The ideal candidate would also have experience in:

  • Advanced vendor management or automated AP/deposit workflows
  • Additional accounting platforms such as Oracle, SAP, or Workday
  • Intermediate Excel functions like pivot tables and lookups
  • Identifying trends or anomalies in financial data
  • Preparing or reviewing journal entries in multifund or complex environments
  • Collaborative, crossdepartment problemsolving
  • Implementing workflow or process improvements
  • Performing highercomplexity or highvolume reconciliations
  • A proactive, solution-oriented approach to challenges

Hiring Range: 62,000-83,500
