Join Virginia Housing and help make a difference as an Assistant Counsel.

This important role will be responsible for documenting and closing Virginia Housing's rental housing (multi-family) mortgage loans, loan servicing issues and general corporate legal work. Our ideal candidate is a results-oriented lawyer with expertise in multifaceted commercial transactions, managing legal risks, and in negotiating complex agreements and financial instruments. Virginia Housing is one of the nation’s premier housing finance agencies. Our mission is to help Virginians attain quality, affordable housing, which we accomplish through our creative lending and grant programs.

We are focused on employee engagement and committed to a healthy and diverse workforce. Educational opportunities to help your advancement are available through classroom and online programs.

To be successful in this role you must possess:

  • J. D. degree from a law school accredited by the American Association of Law Schools and an active membership in good standing with the Virginia State Bar.

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to be a supportive member of a team.
  • Experience advising management or clients, leading change to meet organizational goals, and ability to apply legal concepts to meet business objectives and develop practical solutions.
  • Experience in developing, directing and managing multiple projects in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.
  • Disciplined, motivated, and able to work effectively under pressure and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) as well as Adobe products.

The ideal candidate would also have experience in: Prior in-house or law firm experience in drafting multi-family loan closing documents and conducting multi-family loan closings. Experience in commercial real estate transactions.
